On the Last Epiphany,

or Christ Coming to Judgement

Written  & Published 1763.   TP1138

Age 10, Colston's School

No original manuscript is known to exist. So, we have to make do with the first printing of On the last Epiphany, or CHRIST coming to JUDGEMENT, in Felix Farley's Bristol Journal, on the 8th January 1763, when Chatterton was just 10 years old.

It was first claimed as Chatterton's work by William Tyson in 1837, and is accepted as such by Meyerstein. However, Donald Taylor lists it in 'Works of Doubtful Authenticity.'

John Ross Dix 1837

Please bear in mind that John Ross Dix has been shown to be suspect (did I say 'suspect' it should be 'fraudulent.') in the various claims he makes in his book about Chatterton, starting with the 'portrait' affixed to the First edition of his The Life of Thomas Chatterton, 1837.
